Here are my thoughts on Meta shutting down Facebook Podcasts.
I think there are some misunderstandings about how this worked and why it mattered. For me, I didn’t lose a ton. About 4% of my downloads happened here, and Facebook provided virtually no stats on anything of substance.
Instead, this is about potential unrealized. There were so many things that could have been fine here. The irony is that I just published a podcast episode yesterday about the podcasting features Meta needs. Whoops!
The decision is surely about a shifting of resources to the metaverse and short form video. Understandable. Still disappointing.
