Should You Repost Videos on TikTok?

If you're on TikTok, you've likely heard creators recommend reposting the exact same video. This could be to leverage a good performing video, but it could also be to try again if something didn't do well.

This is something I wouldn't normally ever consider on other platforms. And really, I still wouldn't recommend it on Instagram or Facebook Reels because those algorithms prefer original content.

But I had a video that I expected to do well on TikTok that performed REALLY badly early on, so this felt like a good time to experiment. It received only about 40 plays within multiple hours when even my bad-performing videos would normally get a couple hundred.

So within 11 hours of posting that video, I reposted the exact same video file. What happened?

By the next day, the original video was still doing badly (80 plays, which is probably my worst-performing video ever). The reposted version had more than 10X as many plays.

So, while this doesn't necessarily mean that you should repost everything and there are lots of reasons why a video might do well or not. It does suggest that you won't be penalized for reposting a video on TikTok.

Something to try out! Do you repost videos on TikTok?
