The Huge Potential Problem with Meta Verified

There is a huge potential problem with Meta Verified, but there is a solution...

If you're a creator and you sign up for this, what happens in a couple of years if you miss a payment? Or if you cancel?

I assume you'll lose your verification badge. And that creates all kinds of confusion.

Suddenly, your followers think you're an imposter. They might start reporting you. That will create an additional strain on Meta support.

By signing up for this subscription, you boxed yourself in. You have to keep paying!

If Meta cares about the authenticity of the platform, they shouldn't want this. Tying subscription to verification doesn't make sense.

Once you get initially verified, Meta's work is done. The subscription is only for the additional benefits at that point.

The solution is simple: Once you get verified, you don't lose verification if you stay within the rules.

You can't change your name or username. If you need to get verified again because you make one of those changes, you'll need to pay again.

Meta could still offer a subscription for support and other benefits. But your verification should continue once it's done. This could and should also apply to anyone who was verified under the previous program.

What do you think?
